Wonderful painter and muralist. He was born
in Mexico, in the northern city of Monterrey, on November 12, 1872. When he was just nine years old, Ramos Martinez did a
portrait of the governor of Monterey that was sent to an exhibition in
San Antonio, Texas, and won the first prize. He then got a scholarship to
the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and, following 14 years
of art study in Paris, he returned to serve as its director in 1912
(one of his students was Siqueiros). In 1929 he moved to Los
Angeles, California, where he painted portraits, murals and Mexican subjects.
Ramos Martinez died in Los Angeles on November 8, 1946.
